Capture guide
A full circle.
A better little you.
Still subject. Moving camera. Bright, even light. A few thoughtful choices make a big difference.
Ask the person’s permission before scanning or sharing their likeness. Choose a comfortable pose they can hold through both passes.
Set the scene
Use bright, soft light and leave room to walk around the whole subject. Avoid strong backlight, glossy or transparent objects, and large blank surfaces. Keep the subject and nearby objects still.
For people, frame head to toe, keep the feet slightly apart and leave a little space between arms and torso. Keep fingers still.
Complete the photo orbit
Tap Create a miniature and follow the capture guidance. Walk slowly around the subject, keeping neighbouring views overlapping. Include the back, sides, top and feet; do not stop at the front.
The app chooses the capture path available on the device. Camera-only capture does not use LiDAR. Capture and model building are separate capabilities: a phone may capture photos and video even when on-device reconstruction is unavailable.
Continue into detail video
Use Next · record video after the photo orbit. The camera hands over to the detail pass and starts when ready. Keep the subject in exactly the same position while you make another slow orbit.
The detail camera prioritises 4K at 60 fps with a 1/300-second shutter on supported hardware. Bright light matters at this shutter speed. The app reports a camera error if that mode cannot start; it does not silently promise the same quality on every iPhone.
Finish and build
Tap Finish video & build. Selected video frames contribute to the same photogrammetry model as your photo pass. Keep 3Dmee open while it reconstructs.
If video is unavailable, use Retry video or Finish with photos. Stop & save and the detail screen’s Cancel preserve captured work in Your miniatures. Delete an unwanted capture later.
Give it a proper look
Open Explore in 3D and turn the model all the way around. Look at the face, hands, feet, underside and back. Missing surfaces or movement artifacts need another capture; colour preparation cannot recreate missing geometry.
